Founding the Circus and Festival

Firefly Theatre and Circus was established in 2001 by John Ullyatt and Annie Dugan, with Dugan taking on the role of Artistic Director. In 2004, she launched the Firefly Circus Academy, Alberta’s first school dedicated to aerial circus arts. Firefly Theatre quickly garnered accolades, including Edmonton’s arts and culture achievement award.
In 2022, Dugan and Ullyatt expanded their vision, founding a festival to showcase world-class circus performers and acrobatic teams from around the globe. The festival’s debut was a resounding success, featuring jaw-dropping stunts, vibrant performances, and an inviting atmosphere that captivated audiences.
