Overcoming a Challenging Childhood
Dennis was born in 1945 in Regina and was adopted by a large family with six other children. From an early age, he developed a passion for horseback riding.
At the age of seven, his family moved to Alberta, where Dennis completed high school and later university. Higher education was never a priority for him, but a teacher in high school recognized his potential, encouraging him to set ambitious goals.
After finishing high school, Dennis faced financial challenges as his adoptive parents couldn’t afford university fees. However, with the help of his teacher, who loaned him the money, Dennis was able to enroll at the University of Alberta in the Faculty of Education.
A Lifetime of Achievements
After graduation, Dennis married and began a successful career in life insurance. He founded the Fairley Erker Advisory Group, which has grown into one of Canada’s leading estate planning and group insurance brokerage firms.
Dennis made significant contributions to the industry, serving as president of the Edmonton Life Underwriter’s Association and as a founding member of the Conference of Advanced Life Underwriters. Understanding the importance of continuous education, Dennis earned a designation as a Chartered Life Underwriter and participated in numerous motivational seminars.
One of Dennis’s proudest accomplishments is leading a group of graduates to earn the ICD.D certification from the Institute of Corporate Directors at the University of Alberta.
Over the years, Dennis has been deeply involved in community service. His love for sports led him to serve as a director of the Edmonton Eskimos football team and later as a member of the Canadian Football League Board of Governors.
In 1994, Dennis chaired the World Wheelchair Basketball Championship in Edmonton, and in 2001, he was part of the successful bid committee that brought the World Athletics Championships to the city.

Dennis continues to enhance the quality of life for Edmontonians and Albertans. He leads several organizations, including the Minerva Foundation, the Edmonton Community Foundation, and Edmonton Northlands.

For years, Dennis has supported Canadian military personnel. As an Honorary Colonel of the Loyal Edmonton Regiment, he established Valour Place, a temporary residence for wounded service members in Edmonton. Through a community-wide campaign, he raised $10 million to construct the facility.
